Military families know better than most that timing is everything. Deployment orders move up. PCS dates change. A VA claim hinges on a single notarized affidavit. We work with active-duty service members, reservists, veterans, and their families across Southwest Ohio — including the Wright-Patterson AFB community — and the through-line in almost every appointment is the same: get the document witnessed properly the first time, so nothing has to be redone from overseas.

Deployment Power of Attorney

A deployment POA is the single most important notarization most service members will need before leaving. It grants a trusted person — usually a spouse or parent — authority to handle the practical and legal life you cannot manage from deployment. Depending on how it is drafted, that may include banking, bill payments, tax filings, real estate, vehicle transactions, contracts, and even decisions about children's healthcare and schooling.

A few things make a deployment POA signing go smoothly. Bring your CAC or a current government photo ID. Have the agent's full legal name and address on the form. Do not sign the document before we arrive. And if the form is from your installation's legal assistance office, follow their witness instructions exactly — some POA templates require two witnesses in addition to the notary, and the witnesses cannot be the agent.

VA benefits and claims documentation

VA paperwork shows up in our calendar all year. We notarize benefit applications, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) forms, Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) documents, fiduciary appointments, healthcare enrollment forms, and the supporting affidavits that often accompany disability claims. For veterans who are hospitalized — at the Dayton VA, Cincinnati VA, or a civilian facility — we provide bedside notarization the same way we do for any patient.

DD-214 authentication for official use

A DD-214 used for civilian employment within the U.S. usually does not need notarization. A DD-214 used internationally or for certain official applications often does. The process is a notarized copy certification first, then an Ohio Secretary of State apostille, and in some cases an additional embassy legalization. We handle the certification side and can outline the rest of the chain so you know what to expect.

Family Care Plans and military spouse signings

Dual-military families and single-parent service members have specific Family Care Plan requirements. We have seen most of the templates and know which sections trigger the most rework when they are filled in wrong; if you are unsure about a field, ask before you sign.

Veteran estate planning and end-of-life documents

Many of our veteran clients eventually move from deployment documents into estate work — Wills, trusts, Durable POAs, Healthcare POAs, and Living Wills. The signing process is the same as for any Ohio resident; what changes is the scheduling. Evening, weekend, and hospital appointments are routine.
