Immigration paperwork is unforgiving about details. A missing notary stamp on an I-864, a translator affidavit signed before the notary arrived, an apostille request sent without the underlying notarization — any of these can reset weeks of progress. Our role is to make sure the signatures on your immigration packet are clean, correctly witnessed, and ready for USCIS, the Ohio Secretary of State, or whichever consulate is next in your chain.

The Affidavit of Support (Form I-864)

The I-864 is the document we notarize most often for immigration. It is required for nearly every family-based immigrant visa and for many employment-based categories. The sponsor — sometimes a joint sponsor too — must sign in the presence of a notary with current government-issued photo ID. We see the signed page rejected most often for one of three reasons: the signature was added before the notary arrived, a field was left blank, or the sponsor used an expired ID.

If you bring the completed form unsigned and a current passport or driver's license, the appointment usually takes under fifteen minutes.

Translator affidavits — what we can and cannot do

USCIS requires foreign-language documents to be accompanied by certified English translations. We do not translate. What we do is notarize the translator's affidavit — the statement in which a competent bilingual person certifies the translation is complete and accurate, and takes responsibility for it. The translator signs in our presence; you do not need to be there for that step unless you want to be. If you are working with a professional translator, we coordinate directly with them.

Notarization vs. apostille for international use

For documents heading to a country in the Hague Apostille Convention, the chain is usually: notarization first, then Ohio Secretary of State apostille, then delivery. Countries outside the Convention require an additional consulate or embassy legalization step. We handle the notarization end and can point you toward the right Secretary of State process, but we are not the apostille agency itself.
